Formaldehyde’s intrinsic anti-bacterial and preservative properties make it the first choice for a number of health care applications including vaccines and anti-bacterial/infection drugs.

Formaldehyde is used in vaccine development to deactivate the virus and to kill any bacteria that might cause infection. It is also added as a preservative, increasing the vaccine’s shelf life and allowing it to be sent from the place of manufacture for use all around the world.

Formaldehyde is also an essential ingredient in the design of some anti-depressants and cancer treatments to enable their absorption and clinical action.

Formaldehyde is also used in the manufacture of vaccines against anthrax, diphtheria, hepatitis A, and influenza; as a denaturant for RNA analysis; as an active ingredient in anti-infective drugs; for hard gel capsule manufacturing; and in pharmaceutical research, especially proteomics and genomics research.
