Home“Products containing formaldehyde, manufactured under EU standards, are completely safe.” says Phil Hope, Secretary General of formacare. “Formaldehyde has been used safely for over a hundred years. The substance has been extensively examined, with numerous studies into potential carcinogenic effects. None have shown conclusive evidence to suggest that exposure to formaldehyde causes cancer.”
Cal Dooley, CEO of the American Chemistry Council says “Inclusion in the RoC does not mean that formaldehyde presents any risk to human health. In fact, NTP itself states, ‘…Listing in the report does not establish that such substances present a risk to persons in their daily lives.’ “
Formaldehyde is a naturally occurring substance, used safely in a variety of different applications from vaccines to kitchen cupboards. Inclusion in the 12th RoC does not impact formaldehyde production or use in Europe. Formacare continues to work closely with the authorities to ensure the continued safe use of formaldehyde in Europe based on sound science. We support the ACC in their efforts to do the same in the United States.
